Jackie Davis (Juba)
Juba is a self-taught artist and graphic designer based in Dallas, Texas. His artistic journey began in his teenage years with sketches of cartoons, gradually evolving into a deeper exploration of visual storytelling. After high school, Juba pursued studies in graphic design and art, but it was a child development course that profoundly reshaped his creative direction. This course encouraged him to confront his own experiences of childhood trauma, having grown up in the foster care system.
“The canvas became my sanctuary,” Juba reflects. “It allowed me to extract and face the difficult memories. Art became a gateway to vulnerability and healing, offering hope where words fell short.”
Juba’s work embraces abstract expression, using it as a medium to explore trauma, resilience, and cognitive development. His art reflects personal and collective experiences, merging bold visuals with introspective depth.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Juba holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work, now dedicating his professional life to advocating for children in foster care. His goal is to use his art as a voice for individual healing and community awareness, challenging viewers to engage with the complexities of trauma and resilience.
